Title: "STEADY"
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Ron/Viktor, Ron/Viktor/Draco
Summary: Ron's a Quidditch player. Viktor's the head of the Subcommittee for International Quidditch Standards. Draco is Viktor's filing clerk. Some combinations should never be attempted.
Word Count: 18,000
Genres: Slash, Romance, Humour, Erotica
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Slash, Strong Sexual Content, Angst, AU, Non DH Compliant
Published: 3/31/07
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: A post-war story written pre-DH and therefore rather AU. The War's taken its toll on everyone, including Ron, who's playing Quidditch for a Hungarian team. He regularly sees Harry, who's dropped out of the Auror Corps, and Hermione, who's struggling with her war injury but finding a new lease on life by dating Lee Jordan. After filing an appeal to an annoying Quidditch regulation, Ron is summoned to Viktor Krum's office to discuss it. To Ron's surprise, Viktor's more interested in Ron than some regulation change. All goes well until Ron discovers that Viktor has hired one Draco Malfoy as a personal assistant. Another nicely drawn adult Ron, and wonderful insight into Viktor Krum, an oft-overlooked character. But it's a horribly damaged Draco that almost steals the show.

Title: "BY STREETLIGHT THIS DARK NIGHT"
Rating: PG-13
Pairing(s): Ron Weasley/Bob Bryar
Summary: It was not exactly what he expected. There wasn’t, he supposed, a real “real” expectation for the end of war...
Word Count: 5,500
Genres: Slash, Romance, Crossovers: Bandom
Warnings: Adult Situations, AU, Non DH Compliant
Published: 11/18/07
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: This fic is one of the few crossovers - particularly bandom crossovers - that features a post-war Ron, broken and struggling to find something that works for him, not for anyone else. It's a My Chemical Romance crossover, so it also features drunk, rambling, adorkable band boys and a lovely setting that is believable and well-drawn.

Title: "EVERYTHING MORE THAN EVERYTHING ELSE"
Rating: R
Pairing(s): Ron/Harry
Summary: "Hate is a great burden to bear. It injures the hater more than the hated." -Coretta Scott King
Word Count: 3,000
Genres: Post War, Romance, Dark
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language. Infidelity, Love/Hate, Abuse, Angst
Published: 12/3/09
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: Quantum Theory states that each and every one of our choices is played out in another universe, overlaid and sharing space/time with our own. So in a paralell universe, there's a horribly powerless and wounded Ron, loving a far more hapless Harry. Infidelity, abuse, self-loathing...it's all here. But these less than stellar universes certainly help one to appreciate those with more palatable outcomes. Brilliantly written, and completely gut-wrenching. Without some shadow, we cannot appreciate the light.

Title: "SHERLOCK HOLMES!RON WEASLEY & DR. JOHN WATSON!HARRY POTTER"
Rating: G
Subject(s): Ron Weasley & Harry Potter
Genre: Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, Crossovers
Media: Photoshop
Warnings: None
Published: 8/25/09
Recommended: 2010

Why you should view this: It's Ron and Harry as Sherlock Holmes and Watson. If that is not enough to send anyone into spirals of capslocky glee, there is also [personal profile] glockgal's gorgeous style to consider - here she mixes a crosshatched pen effect in the background with muted colors in the foreground, and the rainbow of Every-Flavour beans in the middle. And their little pink noses... so cute. The piece also subverts the characters' usual sidekick roles, giving Ron a moment in the spotlight for once. (Not to mention that Harry makes a delicious Watson...) Lovely art all around!

Title: "A SOFT SPOT FOR LOST CAUSES"
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Ron/Draco
Summary: ...Draco’s back was clammy under his hands, and when his head flopped weakly back over Ron’s arm, his irises were alien, flooded wide grey...
Word Count: 13,100
Genres: Romance, Angst, War-Fic, AU
Warnings: Adult Situations and Language, Strong Sexual Content, Graphic Violence, Dub-Con, Implied Torture/Rape, Non DH Compliant
Published: 7/13/04
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: A beautifully written examination of a relationship that grows in the fractures of two broken people and their flaws and vulnerabilities. It's something dark and yet so cautiously optimistic; full of melancholy, silence and misunderstandings. Set in an AU where the War against Voldemort continues, this fic manages to capture the bleakness of the constant tension and the everyday moments of people trying to make a life out of what they have.

Title: "HANDS"
Rating: PG-13
Subject(s): Ron Weasley
Genre: Harry Potter
Media: Brushpen, Photoshop, Photo Collage
Warnings: Dubious Content, Angst, Implied Slash, Implied Sexual Activity
Published: 1/16/09
Recommended: 2010

Why you should view this: The warnings may look scary, but this is really a beautiful piece. The focus is on Ron, with the hands of his unnamed partner framing his face. ([profile] hey_rupert's post also contains a G-rated picture of Draco, so one could easily believe those are Draco's hands.) Whenever one views the piece, the attention goes straight to Ron's eyes, which are haunting (this is not a boy with the emotional range of a teaspoon, whatever his friends like to say), as is his hand on his partner's wrist, maybe pushing him away, maybe pulling him closer...

The true beauty of this artwork, above and beyond the gorgeousness, is that it has so many stories in it, swimming just below the surface. Truly a magnificent character study.

Author: Icarus
Title: "A '57 VINCENT AND A RED-HEADED BOY"
Rating: PG-13
Pairing(s): Ron/Sirius
Summary: It was long, sleek and black, and purred like a wildcat... it was beautiful. Male-bonding, motorcycles and bad boys. Sirius takes Ron out for a wild ride.
Word Count: 3,520
Genres: PWP
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Slash, Underage
Published: 11/26/05
Recommended: 2010

Why you should view this: Not really a dark fic; how could it be, when Ron and Sirius take off on his motorbike for a joyride? But it is filled with the kind of wildness you see with desperation and loneliness. It has uncomfortable tension and an unresolved ending that leaves an impression. It is not a particularly plotty fic, nor does it dive deep into its characters' psyches. It tells the story through moments and fragments. Some of the word choices jar a little, but that is the tiniest, smallest of quibbles. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to see these two characters - so alike in so many ways - in a little fragment of time.

Title: "KRIEGSPIEL"
Rating: R
Characters: Ron Weasley, Lucius Malfoy
Summary: Voldemort has claimed Azkaban for his own. Ron is captured. You can't beat learning from a master.
Word Count: 11,178
Genres: Gen, War Fic, Drama
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Implied Torture, Angst, AU, Non DH Compliant
Published: 8/15/07
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this:
Some stories stay with you, either because of the writing or the theme or the content. This story has all three, along with an ambiguous ending that will leave you guessing. Ron is imprisoned in the war against Voldemort, and he discovers - in his rare moments of lucidity - that he has an unexpected neighbour in the bowels of Azkaban. It's the intriguing, uncomfortable possibilities of the future, after the superficially happy ending, that make your skin crawl, and make the story stay with you.

Title: "THE MALFOY GUIDE TO PRODUCTIVE EXTORTION"
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Ron/Harry/Draco
Summary: While on patrol in his Prefect duties, Draco Malfoy comes upon a drunken Harry and Ron and decides it is prime blackmail material. However, things go very awry...
Word Count: 8,000
Genres: Slash, Romance

Why you should read this: I'm not sure what made me give this story a chance. Maybe it was recced by someone I trusted, maybe I was in the mood for some threesome lovin' or perhaps it was the clever title. And honestly, it might actually be one of those surprise!H/D stories, but it's just so funny and Harry and Ron just are sort of perfect and I didn't even mind Draco too much. :)) And it's not like Ron is used as an instigator to get those two together. The bestmate relationship is respected and that's really all I want in a story like this.

Title: "RAISING THE DEAD"
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Harry/Ron
Summary: Harry and Ron are working for the Auror’s Department, and while sitting a stake out in an unlikely location, have a meaningful conversation and find a way to pass the time.
Word Count: 5,100
Genres: Romance, Humour, Erotica, EWE
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Slash, Strong Sexual Content, Rimming, DH Spoilers
Published: 08/10/07
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: A mostly epilogue compliant story that retains some canon elements and discards the rest. Basically an interlude, focusing on Ron and Harry whilst on assignment in a frigid Scottish graveyard. While Ron and Harry are both officially separated from Hermione and Ginny respectively, mixed feelings still linger, especially for Ron. The characterizations are well-rounded and believable, and while not particularly deep, they still ring true. Excellent dialog as well, with the right touch of humour. The rating and warnings are most appropriate, as Ron and Harry find some delicious ways to keep warm. Just the right amount of plot to balance the erotica.

Title: "CORPOREALISATION"
Rating: NC-17
Pairing(s): Ron/Sirius
Summary: Magic just happens. Sirius is really glad of that, sometimes, and never more so when Ron turns up at Grimmauld Place after the end of the war. After all, now Ron can replenish his firewhiskey stash – and other important things.
Word Count: 11,000
Genres: Slash, Romance
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, AU, Non DH Compliant
Published: 6/20/08
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: Ron is just so vibrant and rich with characterization and inner-strength. It's a Ron you won't see anywhere else, and yet he never strays too far from what one might imagine a grown up Ron would be. The dialogue between Ron and Sirius is just so perfect and illustrates beautifully why these two would have been perfect for each other. If, you know, Sirius would have survived long enough to see Ron reach adulthood.

Title: "BURNING DAY"
Pairing(s): None
Rating: G
Summary: Albus Dumbledore finishes writing his will and reflects on why he has decided to leave the most personal of his gifts to Ron.
Word Count: 810
Genres: Gen
Warnings: None
Published: 1/17/08
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: Gen pieces are often overlooked when reccing stories. That is a shame, as there are a lot of great ones out there. The best stories reveal things about a character, in pairing pieces it's how they relate and grow in relation to another, in gen its a character study or a glimpse into a piece of life that illuminates. And then there are those times that a story gives us both. In this story we see Ron from some unexpected POV, someone we might not even think paid much attention to our hero Ron Weasley. But it's Dumbledore's understanding and reasoning of Ron that is just so beautifully portrayed in this very short piece. Written for 2008's [personal profile] ginger_lust it was one of the few gen pieces, all of which were rather amazing and excellent representations of the genre.

Title: "SOJOURN"
Pairing(s): Ron/Remus
Rating: PG
Summary: And so it was that the war that defined an age came to an end, not with the expected dramatic explosions, but with a desperately willed whisper...
Word Count: 1,500
Genres: Post-War, AU
Warnings: Angst, Implied Character Deaths, Implied Slash, Non DH Compliant
Published: 6/19/04
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: Sometimes in a Ron/Remus fic, the writer has to sort of break Ron a bit to get him to more fully match Lupin's canon losses and heartbreaks. In this story, Ron's most loved has died and he sojourns to the Veil to pay vigil, only to discover that he is not the only one who finds solace there. This story has such a rich, lyrical simplicity that just made me tear up for the hurt of it! The most enjoyable Ron/Remus' stories are these kind...the being-there-for-each-other-when-all-is-lost kind.

Title: "HOW TO SUCCEED IN MALFOYSIAN GIFT GIVING WITHOUT RESORTING TO DARK MAGIC OR GOING PREMATURELY GREY"
Pairing(s): Ron/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Summary: What do you get Draco Malfoy for his birthday, especially when you're Ron Weasley?
Word Count: 2,400
Genres: Slash, Romance, Humour, Erotica, EWE
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Slash, Strong Sexual Content, Established Relationship
Published: 10/31/09
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: Another selection featuring a thoroughly adult Ron, who's faced with a most unenviable predicament: his bondmate's birthday is looming, and Ron's pants at picking out gifts. Especially when the recipient is the love of his life, Draco Malfoy. Ron's perfect here, as he's intensely loyal, dedicated, and determined to find the perfect gift for his Draco, no matter what. Though the narrative is relatively short, it's chock full of wonderful moments with Ron, notably his tense luncheon with Pansy Parkinson. The rating is well-warranted too, as the fic includes some deliciously hot smexin'. A companion piece to [personal profile] thrihyrne's "LIKE WINE THROUGH WATER", the story stands and can easily be enjoyed on its own.

Title: " THE TAO OF DIOGENES "
Pairing(s): Ron/Severus
Rating: R
Summary: The war is finally over and two veterans meet again…for the very first time.
Word Count: 7,440
Genres: Slash
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Non DH Compliant
Published: 3/1/04
Recommended: 2010

Why you should read this: This post-war, grown up Ron is all the things one would imagine he'd be, a little beat up, a little wiser and just as snarky. And it's not just Ron who's masterfully drawn here, but each of the other characters is wonderfully presented as well. The author explores in depth how Ron and Snape have both been scarred through the years of past wrongs and sloppily-mended hearts, and how they could be healed by each other. And there is nothing sexier then a MediWizard Ron! And no snark better then a Ron/Snape snark!

Title: "NOR LET ME DIE BEFORE I HAVE BEGUN TO LIVE"
Pairing(s): Ron/Harry
Rating: NC-17
Summary: After the Final Battle, Harry Potter is missing presumed 'killed in action'. Only Ron refuses to give up hope that Harry might still be alive and when, six months later, he finally finds The Boy Who Lived, what he finds horrifies him and he discovers he has a lot of rather unconventional work to do to bring Harry back to the wizarding world.
Word Count: 30,000
Genres: Angst, Post-War, EWE
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Strong Sexual Content, D/s, WS, Rimming, Non DH Compliant
Published: 5/25/07
Recommended: 2007

Why you should read this: This was written pre-DH, in which Harry vanished after the War and Ron has become a pariah to his family and friends, spending months trying to find Harry to no avail. When he does stumble across Harry, Ron discovers just how damaged Harry is, but Ron takes on the task of healing him enough to try to bring him back to the Wizarding world. Callum has an extraordinary way with words and imagery; he gives me writer's envy for sure! He pulls on snippets of canon and elaborates on them in this story, the characterizations are deep and bruisingly real.

Genres: Angst, Romance, AU
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Slash, Strong Sexual Content
Published: 5/15/06
Recommended: 2007

Why you should read this: Told from Ron's POV,"The Wood Was Dark, The Grass Was Green," is a carefully woven and bittersweet tale about he and Draco and the discoveries he makes: a commonality never realised, an attraction never considered, and a happiness that could never be.

Title: "SEA CHANGE"
Pairing(s): Ron/Draco
Rating: NC-17
Summary: sea change (n): a marked transformation.
Word Count: 33,786
Genres: Angst
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Slash, Strong Sexual Content, Underage
Published: 1/3/06
Recommended: 2007

Why you should read this: The story centers around Ron immediately after HBP and Dumbledore's end. Draco Malfoy, in desperate need of protection, is shuttled off to Grimmauld Place to live with the Ron, Harry, Hermione and a few other members of the Order. Exchanges between the two primary characters begin as expected, but Ron starts to notice little things about Malfoy -- his bottom row of teeth, that his hands flitter about when he speaks excitedly about something, that he looks lovely in hues of deep blue-green -- and he doesn't know quite what to do about it...until Draco makes it impossible to ignore. While the smut is incredibly hot, what sets this story apart is the almost canonfeel of it. This could have been an official interlude between HBP and DH.

Title: "BUT WHAT IS ONE MORE ABERRATION?"
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Percy/Ron
Summary: Percy confuses almost everyone, and Ron has always thought that perhaps his proximity and their shared blood only makes Percy more confusing, not less.
Word Count: 9,028
Genres: Drama, Slash
Warnings: Adult Language & Situations, Alternating POV, Angst, Incest, Mentions of Character Death, Non DH Compliant.
Published: 1/3/06

Why you should read this: Very rarely is Percy given the spotlight, and rarer still that an author imbues him with such richly textured emotions. A completely gorgeous exploration of Percy and his existence growing up as a Weasley, from when he is six through the post-war era. And yes, this is Weasleycest, but hopefully this does not discourage a read of this fine story. Percy's and Ron's voices are so spot on. Wonderfully somber and bittersweet.

Title: "AFTERMATH"

Rating: NC-17
Summary: It's long after the War, and Severus Snape discovers there is more to life than potions.

Genres: Angst, Post-War, AU
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Slash, Rape, Non-Con, Violence, Non DH Compliant
Published: 7/09/05

Why you should read this: In a post-Voldemort/post-War world, Severus Snape attempts an isolated life in the Muggle world until, quite unexpectedly, a physically and psychologically damaged Ron Weasley shows up at the door of the building that has become Snape's home. Over time, Snape unravels the mystery of why Ron still suffers even though the War is over. Ron is first merely Snape's patient, but eventually their relationship evolves towards loving healing, and the two discover a profound affection for each other, all while battling the usual elements of society, Death Eaters, shared history, and a very protective Weasley family. The prose and dialogue are so masterful as to be transparent.

Rating: NC-17
Summary:
Word Count:
Genres: Angst, Post-War, AU
Warnings: Adult Situations & Language, Slash, Strong Sexual Content
Published:

Why you should read this: Ron in this story has suffered; both from Death Eater torture (thankfully off-screen, as it were), but also from his former partner/lover, who was the one who caused him to be captured. He's back at work at the Ministry, and who should show up to be his new partner but Draco Malfoy, also damaged, and the inter-personal/inter-work-environment relationship is refreshingly complex and, therefore, believable. Awkward. Mistrustful. Ron's a genius at encryption. Draco suffers from claustrophobia. Hotness eventually ensues, and it's so brilliantly masculine. The tremendous in attention to detail and the vision of mid-20's, post-War Ron is exquisite.

NOTE: We're working to find a viable link to this story as the community it was originally posted to is no more...
